It is 1 in the morning and I can't sleep. My leg is aching so badly and I can't get comfortable in bed. I have been pretty bummed lately, but this blog hopefully will be more cheerfull. I have big plans for the future. I hope to be over this little broken leg thing soon and be training harder than ever. I originally wanted to have the fastest time in the 1/2 ironman here in june, but as i havent been able to train lately i am pretty sure that will never happen, but with a good year of smart choices and training I hope to be able to do it next year. This is going to be a good year though.
At school I have started a club. it is a triathlon and cycling club. I have been talking to a guy named Gary Vasconi about some uniforms. He makes the most comfortable italian bike clothes ever made. There seems to be about 6 or 7 guys and girls in Hilo that are serious about training. I would like to see a team emerge from Hilo that train and race together. I want to get some cool sponsors and gear for us, and ultimately race mainland... If I could I would race in the road nationals this next year, but I dont have a clue how to get into that race. So I will be contacting USACycling and inquiring about what we need to qualify, then raise money to bring 3 or 4 guys with me. If that doesnt work then maybe aim for some other events.
I have never been super strong at any one event but if I focus my efforts, my coach John Howard and I will be able to succeed I think.
I have been gaining weight recently due to the lack of excersize from the leg, I feel like I could lose 20 pounds! When I can ride hard I am going to kick my butt, and regain my form though.

I really love riding my bike, and I would like to do it for the rest of my life. But more than that I would like to be one of the best. I know that I am too old and big and slow to race succesfully in the Pro Peloton, but I really do think that I could make it out there... Maybe as a time trialist, or a track rider. Anyways, triathlon is big here and I will pursue it while we live here and try to regain my triathlon form and get faster till the time we leave the big island. I still havent paid for the entry to the Honu Triathlon, or any race for that matter, but in two weeks I will feel great and I will start the long road too racing it, including paying for it!

The last time I did that race I averaged 22 miles/hour. My goal this year will be around 24-25 miles/hour. This will still put me far behind the leader, but it will be a huge improvement for me. Also if i can run at all I will be happy, as now I cannot walk.

WEll I am starting to get tired, so off to bed I go.

Sorry your leg hurts so bad. Maybe I kicked it on accident one night? Your goals sounds great. You are an awesome cyclist and can make it far with it, I think. You'll be back on the road soon enough. Love you!

Brother, We really would love to do that race but the truth of the matter is that I dont think we can afford it. We are having some finance problems right now, a few unexpected things have come up and so I dont think we will be able to make the 500$ for race entry, let alone plane tickets to hawaii - Anyway.. We were hoping that maybe something cheaper and later in the year, fall maybe - maybe in California? Or here in Texas? Anway - we will chat about it later
Love you guys and sorry your leg hurts so bad :(

Hola Danister....your goals are awesome and I still think you've got the best looking calf muscles around...but are you resting?? I can picture the phone call now...in the middle of the night Robyn calls me to tell me she's in labor and you guys are on your way to the hospital but she's driving cause your leg hurts..makes for a great story but if Robyn is planning on giving birth without drugs Mike says to wear padding b/c she'll be breaking your other leg.
Love ya
